Antonov AN-225 Commemorative Coin Ukraine 5 Hyrvnia Uncirculated Rare 2002 in Mauchline, South Ayrshire for sale

This coin commemorates the Antonov AN-225 Mria/Mriya (meaning dream or inspiration). The AN-225 is a strategic airlift cargo aircraft, which operated its first flight in 1988 and celebrates 30 years in the air this year! The aircraft (there was only one built), was designed by the Antonov Design Bureau in the Ukrainian SSR, within the Soviet Union during the 1980's. It is, very impressively, powered by six turbo-fan-engines, and is the heaviest aircraft ever built, with a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes, and the largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational service! I have personally witnessed cargo (including lorries!) being loaded onto this aircraft at Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, and as proud as I am to own this coin which was given to me by one of their Pilots, I have come into financial difficulty and have to sell it on. The centre of the coin depicts the small National Emblem of Ukraine within an allegoric composition of the sun, a conventionalised wing, birds and stars that symbolise the dream of mankind to reach outer space. On the reverse, you'll find the AN-225 over a runway encircled with the inscriptions: ЛІТАКИ УКРАЇНИ (aircrafts of Ukraine) and АН-225 `МРІЯ (AN-225 `Mria`). Collection from Tarbolton.
